I was talking to one of my best friends on the phone last night and we were trying to figure out when my fashion obsession began. I had to really to do some deep digging to try and figure it out. I thought about when I was in the 4th grade and I had a serious tantrum because I did not have any new clothes on the 1st day of school. School started on a Wednesday, and my mother did not get paid until that Friday. I was sooo upset - that I threatened to jump out of my bedroom window. Then I went into a rage and tore my room up. My mother laughed at me and then tore me up (LOL). Is that when it started? No. That's not when it started. I think it started when my elementary school best friend Maya and I decided to have a fashion show. We both thought that we were "young" video chicks and our one wish was that we could be in the"Around the Way girl" Video by LL Cool J. (We also wanted to be the girl in the Michael Jackson - The way you make me feel video) We loved the jumpsuits with one latch hanging down, the big gold hoops, steel-toed boots, big gold rope chains, sheer shirts & biker shorts. That was us! I know all the fashionistas remember that. Do you remember the fanny packs, the fluorescent clothing, bra tops, parachute (hammer pants) pants and hair scrunchies?
