Stars Gather to support Gabrielle's Cancer Research Gala

Angels descended on Wall Street Wednesday night as luminaries like Star Jones, Ashanti and Ivana Trump came out to support the Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research with a gala celebration.

Songwriter Denise Rich, along with her daughters Daniella Rich Kilstock and Ilona Rich Schachter, hosted The 2008 "Gabrielle's Gala," which featured performances by Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle.

Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by Denise in memory of her daughter Gabrielle, who lost her long and valiant struggle with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) at the young age of 27. The Foundation's mission is to encourage the development of more effective therapies for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and related cancers, including alternative or complementary medicine.
Other celebrity guests invited to the gala event, which featured a silent and ongoing online auction, included The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and Alan Cumming.

Soul Diva Mary J. Blige Hosts Designer Catharine Maladrino's Concept Boutique Opening

One of my favorite blog sites : Brown Sista is reporting that Soul diva Mary J. Blige was on hand Monday night to help fashion designer Catherine Malandrino open her new concept boutique on Melrose Avenue. Mary acted as hostess for Malandrino who the singer first met some seven years ago when she presented her “Hallelujah” collection at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Mary sang in the show and Catherine has even designed costumes for Mary’s various tours. The two women have kept up their close friendship over the years and when Malandrino decided to open The Catherine Melandrino Mansion, a boutique featuring an in house cafĂ©, library, and accessories store, she called on none other than Mary to host the grand opening.

Other Brown Sistas who showed up for the opening included Sanaa Lathan and Garcelle Beauvais.

Beauty Radar: B.L.A.C. Minerals

One of my favorite beauty blog friends sent me an email telling me about a new ethnic makeup brand called B.l.a.c. Minerals.

B.l.a.c. Minerals was created in an effort to produce pure and natural cosmetics for women of color. Many ethnic women complain about not being able to find high quality makeup that works well with our skin type and complexions, and allow us to create a variety of looks.

B.l.a.c. Mineral’s mission is to provide natural, organic, and holistic skin care and cosmetics to the ethnic marketplace while promoting individualistic beauty across race and place. Their brand seeks to enhance the natural beauty of women and encourage self love and confidence through the images and face of b.l.a.c. minerals.

The products which are all 100% all natural minerals include:

Organic Skin Care

Mineral Foundation

Mineral Eyeshadow

Mineral Satin Finish Blush

Mineral Setting Powder

All Natural Lip care

Take a look at some of the looks that can be created with this product:

NUBIAN QUEEN LOOK

To achieve this look of natural radiant beauty reminiscent of an ancient goddess the following products were used:
FACE : Merced is wearing Amber shade
EYES : Line the lids using Ebony shadow. Using a damp smudge brush apply Ambience shadow to the corner creases of the eye and blend outward.
CHEEKS : A mixture of Ambience and Sunset was used to create a unique color.
Apply mixture to apples of cheeks and blend upward toward hairline.
LIP : Clear lipglaze was used as a base; Ambience was then applied on top.
**Alternative; try our Ginger lipglaze.

DISCO DIVA

To achieve this look of vibrant bold colors that make a statement the following products were used:

FACE : Starsha is wearing Mocha shade
EYES : Line lids with Passion and blend outwards over eye. Royal was used at the creases of the eye and on the corners of the lid. Apply Baby Pink over middle section of eye for a highlight effect.
**Use a damp brush for a more dramatic look.
CHEEKS : Passion eyeshadow was used as a blush and applied to the upper part of cheeks.
** Alternative; try our Rasin blush for a more muted look.
LIP : Clear lip gloss was used as a base. Passion shadow was applied over for a unique color.
For a subtle highlight apply Pink Passion lipglaze to center of the lip.
** Alternative; try our Wine or Misty Plum for an everyday look.
BODY : Sunset body shimmer was used.
ISLAND TROPIC
To achieve this look reminiscent of the soft sunsets and peaceful serenity of the tropics the following products were used:
FACE : Katrina is wearing Butternut shade
EYES : Line half of the eye with Carnival in the creases of eye and move outward toward brow bone. Use Sunset on the remaining half of the eye and blend outward
**Use a damp brush for a more dramatic look
CHEEKS : Glow blush was used in a very small amount. Tap off any excess and apply to the apples of the cheeks.
LIP : Line lips with Spice lipglaze using a lip brush. Carnival eyeshadow was used on top in the center of lips to create a highlight effect.

Victoria Secret Favorites

I absolutely love some of the new items at Victoria's Secret this fall. Besides being the number 1 company for lingerie and beauty items, I always find myself with a long wish list full of clothing and shoes from VS.

Here are four of my favorite items:

Marino Wool Turtleneck Sweater -- I love those puffy sleeves with see through wool around the chest area. Flirty & Sexy. I absolutely LOVE it!

Silk Taffeta Ruffle top --This is a really fun top that can be worn under a nice suit at work to give an extra touch of trendiness and also to cocktail hour with the girls. I love blouses such as this one that can be worn for different purposes.

Silk Tiered Baby Doll top --Very sexy & fun piece. This is another piece that can be worn for multiple occasions. You can dress it up with a cute pencil shirt or even with some cute jeans.

Miss Sixty Ankle Strap Boots -- my favorite item on this list. First I love all the colors. The violet, gray and purple are perfect for the fall and the gold zipper detail gives an extra touch of class. These boots are super sexy and are a definite must have on my wish list. The other good thing is that they can be worn during all seasons because of the closed toe - but open enough everywhere else to be won during the warmer months. I love these boots and I will definitely be grabbing a pair!!

Moody Monday Rants, Raves & Reviews: Long Hair Care Forum

Arrggghh. How I dread Mondays. Especially when you wake up in the morning, get dressed, to try to look your best and your hair has an attitude of it's own. What is a girl to do?
This summer has been the worst summer for me in terms of hair. It's become very brittle, dry and thinner than normal. My hairdresser and I have been going back and forth for weeks trying to figure out what the problem is. We both know that I need to come up with a new regimen to help (1.) stimulate growth, (2.) build volume, (3.) reduce shedding and (4.) get my old texture back (yeah my texture changed dramatically and not for the better). That's the thing that sucks about ethnic hair sometimes - it's so "sensitive" for a lack of better words. Sometimes I think that I should start a blog to document the drama that I deal with everyday with my hair. I think about going natural sometimes, but after this past 8 week relaxer stretch -- I don't know if I have the patience to deal with that.

I did some research on hair products specifically for ethnic hair a few months back and bumped into a website called Long Hair Care Forum - http://www.longhaircareforum.com/. It is soooo awesome!!Long Hair Care Forum is the ultimate Internet resource for women of color that want to grow healthy beautiful long hair. There are hundreds of discussion message boards that talk about issues, problems, products, etc for our hair. Thinking of going natural? - LCHF gives the best advice from people who are transitioning and gives advice on the best products, styling tools, methods, etc to help make the process easier. Do you want to purchase a product and are unsure if it will work for your hair type? Go to LCHF and you will get honest reviews from women from all over.

This forum helped me to figure out the true reasons why my hair went wacky. I purchased the products I needed to help achieve my hair goals, and the best thing was that I was able to make an informed decision about the products I bought based on reviews from people with hair like mine. What did I choose? (1.) Kera Care 1st Lather & Moisturizing Shampoo (2.) Kera Care Humecto Creme Conditioner (3.) I also need to find a good heat protectant and moisturizing creme/oil. -- Any suggestions? I also have been taking Country Maxi Life Vitamins which have really helped alot. I notice the difference already.

What is your hair care regimen?

Don't have one? Then you need to check out Long Hair Care Forum at http://www.longhaircareforum.com/.

I want........

Botkier Boot with Chain Belt -- Very cute for the bohemian chic look which I am really diggin this season!
INC Belted Layered Sweater Dress

Bebe Kimono Cashmere Dress -- extra fly!

Nicholas Kirkwood Lizard Boot -- These are probably one of the hautest pair of shoes I've seen this season!
Diesel Asymmetrical Boots -- love the purple with the zipper detail

Ribbed Asymmetrical Slouchy Dress

Coat Couture -- the best coats across the web

Unfortunately, it's October and it's that time again to look for coats. I always dread the winter months because they never seem to go away. However, I do like the fall because I love boots, jeans and fly jackets.

Here are some of my favorite coats & jackets:

Victoria Secret Belted Wool Trench -- Still one of my top favorites and this is from last season
ASOS Ruffled Trench Coat -- I love how this coat is ruffled in the back. So cute!
I really like the design on this coat, though I don't really care for the color. I think it would be cuter if it was purple.
I think this is a very fly tuxedo jacket. Very chic for work!
ASOS Bow Trench -- very very cute! I would rock the hell out of this with some cute jeans and 4 inch ankle boots (because I am short)
